@Konstantin: I think they got it mostly right. Hardware, UI and mobility (particularly battery life) are all excellent.

The iPad is focused on certain use cases -- surfing the web, reading, games, other basic apps -- and it performs very well for these applications. Even if there are word processor and spreadsheet programs available, it doesn't really try to be a laptop replacement, and that's good.

Overall, it's clearly a new type of device with certain advantages and certain limitations, and that's what a tablet should be. The old Windows-based tablet tried to hard to be a full laptop in a new form factor, and that clearly failed.

So, what do you think after iPad launched - did Apple succeed and met your criteria? And were your criteria sufficient for the success?

Apple Tablet may be launched this Christmas or possibly as early as September. I hope this will be another great rally for apple earnings. I will buy one of this for sure. The iphone started to be too little to stay all the day looking things. I am a great fan of apple product so started collecting all the information (more than 200 sites) about Apple Tablet(News, Videos, Pics, Pre reviews, Rumors etc.,). If you are interested take a look at the below link

To mention two more things: the advantage of Apple is that they make hard- and software that work perfectly together (they just acquired a chip manufacturer, too)
The other thing is: The interface as you mentioned. With the iPhone they started from scratch and they didn't try to put PC like UI onto the small screen. That was the succes.
And the guys at Apple are really good in giving up things (floppy disc in the first iMac, DVD-Drive in the MacBook Air) and the keep-it-simple idea.
I also don't think that handwriting recognition will be implemented: Apple has the Newton experience and handwriting skills in the digital generation are fading away.

Good post. One thing I would like to add is that Apple will have one big advantage over previous attemps to build a tablet PC. It owns one of the biggest content delivery platforms today: iTunes (Music, Movies, TV and don't forget the Apps). I am sure that they will leverage the iTunes platform again for the new tablet PC (assumingly with a focus on home and mobile entertainment). Apple has proven that it excels in all points mentioned above. If it's coming out, the "tapplet" will another successful piece of hardware and another ambassador of the allmighty iTunes platform.
